Meet Lil

Lil is an elderly Filipina woman who worked with us for just a short time. She was a talented seamstress and, we discovered, overcame many odds as a single mother.

As a young woman, Lil became pregnant while she was working at one of the most famous radio stations in the Cebu province; but the father was one of the radio station’s directors, and she was forced to leave the company and raise her daughter alone.

Today, Lil’s daughter is 28 years old, married, and has two children of her own: way to go, Lil, for raising her daughter all on her own and opening a door to a better life for her child.

Lil worked with us, sewing bags out of recycled materials, for just a short time. While she was with us, we learned that Lil lives close to her elderly sister, who has special needs.

Although we’ve lost contact with Lil, we pray that she is doing well and admire her for her work ethic and commitment to overcoming obstacles for the people she loves.

Thank you for empowering women like Lil to continue succeeding by providing the fair, dignified wage they deserve.
